Storelookout is a Chrome extension that watches competitor storefronts for you. It has no backend of its own. Everything it records — the stores you track, the product snapshots it takes and the changes it finds — is stored in your own browser and never sent to us.
What is stored, and where
All of the following stays on your computer, in the browser’s own extension storage:
- Your list of tracked stores and their settings.
- A snapshot of each tracked store’s public catalogue, used to work out what changed.
- The change history shown in the extension, capped at 500 changes per store.
- Your plan and preferences (refresh interval, notifications).
Removing a store deletes its snapshots and history. Uninstalling the extension removes everything.
Requests the extension makes
There are four, and no others:
- Competitor catalogues. The extension requests the public catalogue file of each store you added, on your refresh schedule and when you press refresh. Requests carry no cookies or credentials and nothing that identifies you beyond what any browser sends when loading a public page.
- Store icons. The popup loads favicons from Google’s favicon service, so Google receives the hostnames of the stores in your list and your IP address when the popup is open.
- Product images. Change rows load thumbnails directly from the store’s own image CDN, so that CDN sees your IP address when a row is displayed.
- Payments. If you upgrade, ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com) handles checkout and licensing. It receives an email address and payment status; card details go to Stripe and are never seen by this extension. ExtensionPay never receives your tracked stores or change history.
What we collect
Nothing. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no account. We cannot see which stores you track, because that information never leaves your browser.
If you email support, we hold that email and its contents so we can reply. Nothing more.
Permissions and why they exist
- Storage — to keep your stores, snapshots and settings on your machine.
- Alarms — to run checks on a schedule.
- Notifications — to show a summary when a tracked store changes (paid plans, and only if you switch them on).
- Active tab and scripting — to check whether the page you are looking at is a Shopify-powered storefront when you open the popup. This reads a single value from the page and never runs on pages you have not opened the popup on.
The extension includes one content script, limited to extensionpay.com, so a completed payment can activate your plan immediately.
Children
Storelookout is a business tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Your rights
Because your data never reaches us, requests to access, export or delete it are things you can do yourself: export your change history to CSV from Settings (paid plans), or remove a store, or uninstall the extension. For anything held about a support email, write to support@storelookout.com and it will be deleted on request.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what the extension does with your data, the change will be noted here with a new date, and — where it matters — in the extension itself.
